May 17th2013, Prague: Today the famous art scene of Montparnasse in Paris was recreated in Prague to celebrate the launch of the online home for the creative industries, Toadsquare. Montparnasse, the Parisian quarter that became a melting-pot of creative talent from across the globe and home to world-class artists such as Modigliani, Salvador Dalí, Ernest Hemingwayand F Scott Fitzgerald, came to Kampa Museum of modern art, in the heart of Prague.
Symmetry of the art
TheLeft Bankof the Vltava truly embodied what theLeft Bankof the Seine once did, as the courtyard was filled with artists, performers and artwork to inspire visitors. Actors dressed as some of the famous Montparnasse figures, surrounded by Parisian stalls offering wine, cheese, snails and even Absinthe. Entertainment included painters and performers with music from jazz and blues to the latest exciting dance music coming out of Europe.
‘The Left Bank in the days of Pablo Picasso symbolises all the excitement, opportunity and passion that we want to bring alive again at Toadsquare’ says Hrouda. ‘Artistic communities have always flourished on a local level, with clients and collectors making a bee-line for the cafes where up-and-coming talent can be spotted. But what if you’re a budding genius in Jakarta and your ideal customer is in Madrid? With Toadsquare they could be sitting at the next table.’
Toadsquare
Toadsquare is free to join and gives every member their own shop-window – ‘a website within a website’ – where they can display works of art, photographs, films, video, scripts, designs, music: samples and examples of their creative talents. They can also buy equipment and materials, get training, swap stories and tips with other creative professionals, advertise shows and exhibitions, invite expert criticism and seek inspiration.
In the20th Century artists had to flock to Paris to develop and showcase their work but now we are living in the 21st Century and online tools allow you to do it at the click of a button.
