2013: A record-breaking*
piece of art was created in ten hours in Prague, to celebrate the launch of a
new social network for the creative industries, Toadsquare. 12 artists
from across the globe came together on the banks of the Vltava surrounding
Kampa Museum, home to some of today’s most acclaimed modern art, to create this
gigantic artwork, which measures 12x4m.
Tourists and residents of Prague crowded the cobble stones to watch the artists at work and see the piece assembled. ‘The artwork grabs your attention, not simply because of its size but because of the exciting and diverse artistic styles it brings together’ says Jane Hrouda, Founder of Toadsquare, ‘There are thousands of talented people out there searching for a platform to showcase their work, whether it be a painting, a script or choreography. This artwork is a one-off, but we have worked to create Toadsquare as a giant global canvas for anyone working in the creative industries looking for an audience, partner, buyer or critic’.
Each of the 12 artists involved in the project worked throughout the day to craft a portrait of a historical artistic figure, using a range of materials and artistic styles, from illustrators and street artists to expressionists. The project was part of a larger event in the Czech capital recreating Montparnasse, designed to evoke the bohemian artistic movement of Paris in the 20th Century. The event embodied what Toadsquare is all about – artistic excitement, opportunity and passion.
